Questions and answers to help you get started when thinking about your ceremony.
Here is a list of questions that are often asked, they will of course be many more that you may have and I will of course be happy to answer those for you.
A wedding celebrant is a person who performs your wedding ceremony.
Wedding celebrants work with the couple to create a beautiful unique and meaningful ceremony, which can be a small celebration with just a few guests, or it can be a big celebration with a gathering of family and many friends.
The ceremony can include personal stories, readings, cultural and symbolic rituals, and a selection of your favourite pieces of music. A celebrant would write and put together all that matters to you to make your day a special memory that you can hold from this day forward and share with those that matter most to you.
No currently in the UK to become legally married in England you will need to register your intent to marry with the register office and book an appointment to sign the legal documents.
The legal part of your marriage would be carried out by a registrar (for a civil ceremony) or an authorised religious leader for a religious ceremony.
If you choose a celebrant led ceremony the legal part of the marriage usually takes place prior to the personal ceremony and will need to involve 2 witnesses of your choice.
The formal part of your wedding does not have to involve the exchange of rings and vows, as this is not a legal requirement and this could take place at your wedding ceremony with a celebrant, making it a more personal celebration.
Usually, the couple would register their intent to marry in the district where they currently reside.
It is wise to book a wedding celebrant as soon as possible to be sure to get the date you want and to ensure that the celebrant is the right fit for you. It is recommended that a booking is made at least 12 months in advance of the day, to give time to link everything together with other service providers.
The ceremony can take place where you choose, a special indoor venue, a special outdoor location, a holiday location, on a cruise ship, a beach ceremony or in your own garden, there are so many choices available to you, the possibilities are endless.
An initial consultation is an opportunity for you to share your ideas with me about your wedding day, to ask any questions and to discuss the staged payment process. An initial consultation is a free 50 minute appointment that takes place either in your home, at my office in York or online.
Yes of course, it can be lovely to have children involved in the ceremony and symbolic rituals carried out by children to symbolise unity can make the day very moving for the guests to bare witness to.
Symbolic rituals add a touch of magic to your day, they can be traditional or modern, cultural, religious, creative and personal to you and are incorporated into the ceremony to add special personal meaning.
Themes such as unity, love, connection and support act as a reminder of the bond being celebrated or established. Something as simple as having a candle lit at a wedding or a funeral to remember someone who is not present at the ceremony can provide a comforting way of knowing that you are thinking of someone.
There does not need to be any guideline that you follow when considering a ritual it is whatever is personal and meaningful to you.
Yes, absolutely if you are planning a wedding and would like key relationship support prior to your wedding I can offer that to you, I have helped to prepare many couples for a wedding ceremony, commitment ceremonies and vow renewals. Some people have found it a gift to learn about differences in relationships, learning to understand each other better and invest in a healthy relationship.
If you are planning a funeral you will no doubt be experiencing a process of grief, although there is no timing about grief sometimes it just creeps up behind us when we are not expecting it. Sometimes friends and family members struggle to find the words to support you as death and dying can be a difficult subject to talk about. As part of our work together and the connection we make I am willing to support you after the funeral as taken place or indeed at a time when you feel it would be good to talk.
Yes you can and I would work closely with the funeral director to make sure that communication and timings are accurate.
The visits can take place either in your home or at a venue that is important to you or you can attend my practice which is accessible for individual needs, situated on a ground floor, wheelchair accessible and fitted with a hearing loop. Outside the practice there is free parking.
I do not charge for funerals for children.
